A Prayer
Oh Lord, you knew the depths of my heart
A heart filled with iniquity
A hopeless, thoughtless rebel
A horrifying sight to pity
I was against you from the start
Oh Lord, you knew the depths of my heart
Like Sodom, that wicked city
Refuge for sin and trouble
Only hate my propensity
I had with You no part
Oh Lord, you knew the depths of my heart
Like Jezebel, in enmity
To Satan tied by cable
All my idols my deity
I had built a rampart
Oh Lord, you knew the depths of my heart!
Oh Lord, you knew the depths of my heart
So you died for my impurity
The Father, to impel
To give me immunity
You, His wrath to thwart
Oh Lord, you knew the depths of my heart
Yet you love me in continuity
Even from the stable
And you will to eternity
You will never depart
Oh Lord, you knew the depths of my heart
So, Lord give me the fidelity
To hold sin’s danger palpable
To hate its evil with clarity
You to see my servanthood stalwart
